Loving ourselves through the process of owning our stories is the bravest thing we will ever do."      -Brené Brown

It is often a heavy choice to decide to begin therapy with the time, energy, and financial commitment involved. Once that initial investment has been made, it can be difficult to find the right therapist. So how do we begin to decide what is right for us?

Whether therapy is new altogether for you and this is the first time you are reading about options, or you are choosing to work with a new professional, it is all the same. It helps to learn how therapists run their practice and if their approach aligns with your views. Feel free to browse through my website to gain a better understanding of my style of practice and goals in therapy.

If you decide to meet with a therapist, it also helps to check in after the first few sessions. Notice if you begin to feel differently, acquire a deeper understanding of yourself, access your emotions more readily, or feel a sense of relief. These reflections will allow you to decide if the therapist-client relationship is a natural fit.

Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.” - Brené Brown

Relational psychotherapy is a powerful, effective model for working with individuals who suffer from emotional, psychological, and relational distress.

Relational psychotherapy balances the study of structures or patterns of self experience with the study of persons in interpersonal process. Through the interpersonal process of the therapeutic interaction, relational therapy strengthens and transforms a client's sense of self, which in turn enhances the individual's well-being in the world.

Empowerment and growth through interpersonal connection make up the substance of relational work.
